My Paris : #2 Around Marché d'Aligre

copyright : marchéd'aligre Overall, The East side of Paris is not a favorite spot for tourists. I understand that first-timers tend to focus on the famous must-dos and must-sees of the Capital, but I consider that not visiting l’”Est Parisien” is missing the Real Paris.I am quite familiar with the 12th arrondissement and particularly the Place d’Aligre and its surroundings. I really love that part of the city, it is very lively, cosmopolitan and full of excellent gourmet shops, wonderful bars and restaurants and... [Lire la suite]

Corolle Orange /deux Sésames et Crème semi glacée Mangue/Coco, Orange and Sesame flower-shaped Biscuit, half-frozen mango-coco

Recette en français en bas de page ! Un amuse-bouches sucré... A sweet amuse-bouches... The literal translation of “amuse-bouches” is “mouth amuser”. Funny, isn’t it ? Other words used to describe them are : “amuse-gueule”, “mignardises” or “croque-en-bouches”. Amuse-bouches are served in refined restaurants and are tiny bite-sized pieces of food served before the appetizer or even before the dessert. Indeeed, they can be savory or sweet and their role is to stimulate taste perception. ...

A rice Pudding with a Pierre Hermé’s Ispahan® twist ! You may certainly have heard of Pierre Hermé : he is a world-famous French Pastry Chef. If you google his name, you will find enthousiastic reviews about him :  “Picasso of pastry” (Vogue Magazine), “Pastry Provocateur” (Food & Wine) “Kitchen Emperor” (New York Times) “The King of modern pâtisserie” (The Guardian), and many others. His...

Yesterday, I had a look at my recipe list and it immediately stroke me that the "appetizers" category was a bit “empty” compared to the other ones. So, to balance my list, I had to make an appetizer. By chance, when hubby made his last “expedition” to the butcher, he came back, among many others things, with 2 pounds of chicken livers. I had carefully frozen them in 2 batches. Great, I have found my recipe ! Chicken livers are used in many different ways...

When I was a child, I was not fond of gingerbread. Oddly enough, my twin brother was crazy about it. Who said that twins think alike ? Now, my tastes have changed and I truly enjoy these little spiced slices of bread, especially in savory dishes. Last Saturday, we had "important" guests : my husband's best friend (of 30 years!) and his gorgious israelian-born wife, plus another couple.  So I had to "mettre les petits plats dans les grands" (make a very special...

We love meat. But, oddly enough, we don't eat many meat at home. The reason is very simple : we don't have any good butchery in our neighborhood and I really can't buy meat in supermarkets... So, once every 3 or 4 months (only!), hubby goes to one of the best butchers in Paris and he loads down the car like a mule with tons of yummy meats ! The butcher probably must think that he runs a restaurant - but a strange restaurant that would open only a few days a year ! When he comes back home with what we consider as... [Lire la suite]

My Paris : # 1 Bercy Village

As promised, a "guided visit" of an unknown Paris neighborhood : Bercy  Village. This place is very popular among Parisians (specially cinema lovers as it hosts the largest multiplex cinema in the city) but yet little visited by foreign tourists. Bercy Village is certainly not a spot for Paris first-timers, but if you are already familiar with the "City of Lights", it is well worth a visit. A very easy access Even though located in the extreme South-East part of Paris... [Lire la suite]
