Un Cake avec des restes (de luxe, mais des restes quand même) ! A leftovers Cake !

Apricot and Grated Chocolate Loaf Cake aux Abricots et Râpé de Chocolat Lefovers again !! With the approach of holidays, I limit my food shopping to the bare minimum and I do my best to feed my little family with what is available in my fridge and my pantry. Yesterday I had grated chocolate left from a fudgy chcocolate cake, 4 poor almost rotten ahem-"ripe"  little apricots, and salted butter that was dangerously getting close to its expiration date (who said I wanted to poison my family?). Un cocktail très « punchy » !A very Punchy Cocktail !

Lime and Lemongrass Rum Punch Punch au Citron Vert et à la Citronnelle I have no idea how I managed to have a dozen limes in my fridge…Actually I know : I buy limes everytime I go to the market, forgetting that I already have some at home ! La p’tite entrée plus rapide que son ombre ! The Fastest starter ever !

Goat Cheese, Sundried Tomatoes and Pine Nuts “Brick” Pastries Bricks de Chèvre, Tomates Séchées et Pignons   Since I discovered the folding technique for pastillas, I have "used" it a lot, both for savory and sweet dishes (try it with slowly cooked pears, ginger and roasted almonds slices and tell me what you think of it...). J’ai reçu mon colis européen ! I received my european parcel !

  I am so excited ! I received a gourmet parcel from Great-Britain last week-end ! It was the first time I was taking part in a parcel exchange between foodbloggers and I liked the idea of receiving something from a foreign country ! Petite purée bicolore toute bête ! Very easy 2 colors potato purée !

I don’t know about the other countries, but here, in France it is very trendy for restaurants to propose “regressive” desserts on their menu.  Let me explain : desserts using candies from our childhood. For instance, mousses made with artificial marshmallow strawberries, Tiramisus with melted Caramel/chocolate bars, or even M&M's tartlets !! … But for me, the best regressive food was the one I used to eat at primary school !! Tartare de Saumon estival ! Summery Salmon Tartare !

You probably know what “Tartare” means. But in case some of you wonder what I am talking about, let me explain this : the word Tartare, in cooking, means that the ingredients are served raw and coarsely ground or chopped into small dices. The most famous Tartare is the very French “Steak Tartare” made with raw beef, and seasoned with capers, parsley and onions and a raw egg yolk. Read Emeril Lagasse’s recipe. Tarte aux Fraises sans chichi ni tralala ! No-frills Strawberry Tart !

Surprisingly enough, I had never made a Strawberry Tart before. Why ? Maybe I was too intimidated by the pastry cream (for me, no strawberry tart deserves this name if not made with the latter). There are some basic recipes like that which, quite irrationnally,  impress me: custard, macarons, and soufflés (but I won my battle over the soufflé some months ago). Have you heard of Ken Hom ? He’s a famous Chef with Cantonese origins but raised in Arizona. I have been the happy owner of his cookbook “Ken Hom’s quick Wok” for years. It contains super fast and super simple asian recipes. He started his cooking career as a “commis” in his uncle’s restaurant then his numerous stays in Berkeley and France turned him into a successful Chef.
