Crostata à la Confiture de Cerises des Soeurs Jumelles Toscanes, the Super Tuscans' Cherry Jam Crostata

Each time I go to the USA, and, to my great pleasure, this happens quite often, I load my travel bag with american food magazines : Food&wine, Bon Appétit, Saveur, etc...and my last discovery : Foodnetwork magazine from the eponymous TV channel. But quite funny enough, the recipe that caught my attention among all those yankee foodzines was an...Italian one ! In Bon Appétit, I stumbled upon an interesting article about two twin Tuscanian sisters, professional winemakers and amateurs cooks during their leisure time. Maybe it was... [Lire la suite]

Tarte à la Rhubarbe meringuée, Rhubarb Meringue Pie

Hooray, another wish ! As you may know, it is a tradition in my family to make a wish each time we do something for the very first time ! And I had never cooked rhubarb before today. I have always been impressed and intimidated by their very long stalks: for me, that meant that they were probably hard to peel, cut and cook. My, how wrong was I ! It can’t be easier ! And I also found out about their benefic effects : rich in fibers, they are good to your stomach and they are also a great source of vitamin K (prevention of... [Lire la suite]

A touch of Florida in the wintertime, une petite touche de Floride dans votre assiette !

The apple of my p-eye !

Tarte Fine aux Pommes simplissimeSuper easy Thin Apple Tart Those of you who follow me on Facebook know that I was recently offered an apple peeler and since then, I have had so much fun with it !!  I'm crazy about it, and it is my daughters' new favorite toy, too !! I know this utensil is far from being a novelty and some of my readers even pointed out that their grandparents already owned one a long time ago, but still, I'm fascinated by the way it so easily peels, cores and slices apples. Now, the question is : what do... [Lire la suite]

L'Italie tout simplement...Simply Italy...

Tarte Ricotta, Pignons et Menthe FraîcheRicotta, Pine Nuts and Fresh Mint Tart I simply wanted something fresh, easy to make and exotic. Mint is, by far, my favorite fresh herb, this explains why I am so fond of Thaï Cuisine which uses armfuls of them ! But today, we are not going that far, we will stay in the Mediterranean Coast with unctuous Italian Ricotta, crunchy roasted pine nuts and of course ultra-fresh Mint. A classic but terrific "ménage à trois", hehe ! Mamma Mia, I swear I could have eaten the whole tart... [Lire la suite]

Pour finir un repas exotique en beauté…A pleasant ending to an exotic meal…

Tarte à la Mangue et Citronnelle, pâte à la Noix de CocoMango and Lemongrass Tart with Coconut pastry Remember all the good things I said about american food magazines ? Now I have recently found out that the Australians, too, have amazing “foodzines” ! A friend of mine (thank you Sandra) recently brought to me a selection of gourmet magazines, and “delicious.” (the Australian version, not the British one) was among them. Rarely have I literally devoured a magazine like this ! A pure beauty : articles on such ... [Lire la suite]

Did you know that "Tatin" was a family name ?

Yes, Tatin is not the french translation of “caramelized” even if it has become synonimous with it over the years. Actually, Tatin is a family name from the Center of France, a region called La Motte Beuvron. Two sisters, Stéphanie and Caroline Tatin were running a hotel/restaurant  there in the early 19th century. During hunting season, the restaurant was very busy  and one day, Stéphanie, known for being very clumsy, dropped  an apple tart on the floor ! The apples were facing the floor and the pastry was on... [Lire la suite]
